Collage Series

Life in a pandemic forced us all to re-evaluate and, in some ways, reconstruct our lives around a new reality of rules, mandates, social distance, remote work, and separation from our loved ones. We desperately try to hold on to aspects of our identity and pre-pandemic lives, but the realities and restrictions of the pandemic are woven into every aspect of our day.

This body of collage work reflects this process of deconstruction and reconstruction. Pre-Covid 19 paintings are irreversibly cut apart and recombined into pieces that are much more structured than the original paintings, while they retain the colors and textures of what came before. In weaving together something new, gaps and separations are introduced, but at the same time, new synergies and harmonies are found as well.

Just as the rules in our new pandemic lives are always changing, the rules and structure behind these new weavings are imperfect and ever shifting. The rules are always changing, but there is always some structure at work.
